There are many reasons to choose Daily Dose Equine's premium roasted feeds over big name, mass-produced brands. Let's start with our healthful, non-GMO ingredients. We use oats, barley, non-GMO soybeans, hay, flaxseed and black-oiled sunflower seed to make nutritious and tasty combinations for your horse. Our vitamin/mineral mix is non-GMO as well! We stay away from things such as GMO wheat, soybean meal, corn and distiller’s grains because these ingredients have been linked to health problems such as hormone imbalance, insulin resistance and more. We ensure only the best ingredients get to your horse.
Another great reason to go with Daily Dose feeds is that we roast all the grains and the non-GMO soy. Why is roasting ideal? Passing oats and barley through an extremely hot flame (2600 degrees Fahrenheit!) burns off bacteria, mold and other nasty chemical contaminants from each kernel. Additionally, roasting soybeans kills off unwanted urease enzymes and trypsin inhibitors while simultaneously making the protein, fat and amino acids in the beans easier to digest.

In our feeds, we add a non-GMO vitamin and mineral mix with probiotics that is balanced and chelated for bioavailability. The vitamins are present in high levels to influence proper functioning of the equine metabolism. Our product line boasts two feeds and four forage balancers so that we can tailor a diet to a wide array of equine needs. There are plenty other non-GMO products on the market, but they typically only address one type of horse for calories or non-structural carbohydrates, and few of these products can stand alone nutritionally. So what are GMOs?
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and virus genes that do not naturally occur. Most GMOs have been engineered to withstand the direct application of herbicide such as Roundup and/or to produce an insecticide. As a result, the use of toxic herbicides, such as Roundup, has increased fifteen-fold since GMOs were first introduced. In March 2015, the World Health Organization determined that the herbicide glyphosate (the key ingredient in Roundup) is “probably carcinogenic to humans.”
Which foods might contain GMOs?
Most processed/packaged human and animal foods in north America contain
ingredients derived from GMO wheat, corn, soy, canola and sugar beets. Unfortunately many of these foods also have residual glyphosate as well since it is being used by farmers to increase the output of their fields.
Are GMOs safe?
In the absence of credible independent long-term feeding studies, the safety of GMOs is unknown. A growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights. GMO wheat has been linked to heart disease and digestive issues, GMO soy has been thought to be the culprit of allergies and soybean meal is thought to interfere with phytoestrogens in the body. More than 60 countries around the world – including Australia, Japan and the European Union – require GMOs to be labeled. GMOs are not required to be labeled in the U.S. and Canada. Globally, there are also 300 regions with outright bans on growing GMOs. Informed consumers can change the food industry and make it safer for all.
